Timothy was a believer in the province of Minor Asia, who became a fellow worker with Paul helping him in his work. Timothy's father was Greek, while his mother was a Jewish Christian.

In this first letter of Paul to Timothy there are three parts. First Timothy is warned about the false teachers in the congregation. Secondly Paul instructs Timothy about how to arrange the church and its worship. He also makes clear the qualifications for church officers. Finally he tells Timothy how he can be a good worker to Lord Jesus Christ and instructions to different groups in the church.

The second letter of Paul to Timothy is a personal instruction to Timothy. Paul reminds Timothy to be strong in his work. He also encourages him to always proclaim the Good news about Salvation from Lord God, even if he face persecution and resistance.
